A Resolution to STICK with

Long story short, I’m ready to crush it in 2025! Back when I first wrote this blog in 2023, I thought making a list of New Year’s resolutions was the perfect start. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t. Overwhelm hit fast when I remembered that most of my past resolutions left me feeling either anxious or hangry. But here’s the good news—this time around, I’ve got a better plan, and I can’t wait to share it with you.
So, what’s my New Year’s resolution this year? Drumroll, please…
What’s my New Year’s resolution?!? Drumroll please….
Play More Pickleball.
Surprise, surprise—it’s still the same! Why? Because even two years later, the principles I shared in this blog hold true. Let’s dive in and explore how a single, fun resolution like this can check off all the boxes for a happier, healthier, and more balanced life
Maintaining a Healthy Active Lifestyle
Playing pickleball gets me away from my screen and gives me a break from my endless to-do list. It gets my body moving and feeds my competitive nature. It’s a fun way to be social, and if I’m having a bad day, it’s the perfect excuse to hit things. For me, pickleball is addictive and I effortlessly want to play game after game. While playing pickleball alone won’t exactly give me the hot sculpted body of my dreams, I’m for sure burning calories and having fun at the same time. It’s way more fun than a treadmill workout and, to me, that’s a win!
Learning a New Skill
Pickleball is an easy game to pick up but mastering the sport can feel more like a chess match. I personally find joy in learning new skills. I have enlisted the help of a pickleball coach. I have also found that playing in rec leagues is great way to meet people as well as improve skills and be held accountable for weekly play. If you are just getting started with your pickleball journey, check the local rec centers for group lessons, or a simple YouTube search will yield an endless supply of content and free training videos.
Spending More Time with Friends and Family
I wish my family lived closer, if they did, I have a feeling we would play pickleball all the time. I find that inviting friends to the pickleball court is a super easy way to connect, even if they have never played. This year I’m challenging myself to invite even more people to the game and schedule regular events.
Managing Finances Better
The great thing about pickleball is that I can spend as little or as much as I want. There are plenty of places including city parks, churches, and rec centers where I play for free. One of my favorite places to play is at the Salvation Army. To say that pickleball helps me manage my finances might be a bit of a stretch, however, when I opt to play at the free places, it allows me to save on my entertainment budget and stash away a little more cash in savings.
Drinking More Water
Playing pickleball can make me thirsty! Especially when it’s hot out! The last thing I want is to be dehydrated on the court, so when I know I’ll be playing pickleball, it’s the perfect reason to drink more water.
Traveling More
Whether it’s traveling to my neighborhood park, checking out a pickleball themed restaurant or booking a pickleball cruise! Pickleball resorts and destinations are popping up everywhere! In addition, the professional pickleball tours are in full swing and they make stops from coast to coast. I know I’ll be checking for pickleball options the next time I make travel plans.
Taking a Break from Digital Media
For me the best part about playing pickleball is that it gives me a real break. Pickleball forces me to put down my phone and step away from my computer screen. After a quick match with my doubles partner or a pick-up game at open play I feel different. Dare I say, refreshed? Afterwards, I can get back to kicking butt at whatever I needed a break from in the first place.
